Team squash is for
those who play to a reasonably high standard and who want to match
themselves against the best players of other clubs. Finchley Manor
has had teams in the Middlesex leagues for many years, and some
of the best players in Middlesex have represented us. On our honors
board, we have the names of national and county champions. In
recent years the club has entered three or four men's teams in
various Middlesex leagues, together with Veteran's (O-45) and
Vintage teams (O-55). We are currently represented by men's teams
each in divisions 3-5, in addition to two Vets teams and two Vintage
teams. Current men's team captains are David Hershman, Rick Prior
and Andrew Taylor with Bruce Cade captaining the Vets and Peter
Hughes and Clive Bowman our Vintage teams.
The club regularly hosts the Middlesex Secretaries' Cup tournament,
a team event for all Middlesex team secretaries. This is played
at Finchley throughout the winter months. In 2000 the club was
voted Middlesex "Club of the Year" and has received several annual
awards for the quality of the hospitality offered to visiting
teams.
At Finchley we are always looking for capable players who want
to improve their squash by playing in competitive matches to a
high standard. If you think you can benefit both yourself and
the club by claiming a team place, then contact any of the above
named to arrange a playing trial. Because we have one of the foremost
lady coaches in the country at Finchley, we also welcome interest
from women players who are searching for a congenial playing environment
(contact Judy Willliams).
