Last weekend saw Finchley Manor Juniors dominate the county squash
championships (in thier very RED t shirts) ,with 27 entries 4category

The
under 11's proved our strongest event with 4 of the top 5 places
ending in Andrew beating Nicky in a very exciting final. The u13's
proved strong as well with Lee finishing a comfortable winner giving
him his 4th title & great perfomances from Ashil, Mike,Mac,Luke
finishing3,4, 6,& 8 respectively. Toby played extremely well
to claim the plate & 9th overall.
The
u15's proved a tough group with Rob finishing a creditable 4th &
Greg & Alex contesting the plate final
In the u17's Aidan claimed a worthy plate runner up place &Josh
fought very hard in the u19's
All
3 girls played really well with Hannah & Georgia finishing 3&4
in the u15 girls
Completing
the finalist was Jen in the u19 girls who finshed runner up
Match
of the tournament was Greg vs Alex in the plate final which Greg
finally overcame Alex to win 9-7 in the 5th
After
much debate player of the tournament went to Mikhail for his no.6
spot in the u11's Although behaviour & sportsmanship was exemplory
throughout the weekend my fair play award went to Dan for not claiming
a walk over (& a better ranking) when his opponent turned up
over 1 hour late.
Finally
I'd like to thank all the parents for helping with transport &
supporting all over the weekend once again

Junior Success!
17/9/06
- Report written by Tim Taylor
Finchley
Manor Junior, Andrew Taylor, won 5th place in the Under 11s Section
at the English Junior Squash Open during the summer.
He
came from an unseeded 13th position to beat the number 5 seed and
held his position until the end of the event. It was a strong entry,
with the likes of the Scottish, Welsh and English number 1s taking
the positions above Andrew.
The
four day tournament took place at the prestigious Hallam Club in
Sheffield from 17th to 20th August. It was very well organised,
Andrew playing just one or two matches each day - unfortunately
though, his draw meant he had to be on court at 9am each morning!
There
was a great atmosphere as squash had taken over Sheffield that week,
because the Mamut English Open Professional Squash Championship
finals were being played at the well known Crucible Theatre. Some
of the early rounds of the professional championship were played
at the Hallam Club, so it was an opportunity to see some of the
best seniors in action. It was also Peter Nicols last UK championship
before retiring as a professional.
Finchley Manor Junior Teams League Successes.
2/5/06 - Report written by Craig Rossiter FM U13 Team Manager
A
fantastic weekend of squash saw Finchley manor's under 13 team retain
their league title and the under 16 team win the league for the
first time.
With
many first choice players unavailable the u13's drew 2-2 wining
the match 8 ties to 6 against Oxbridge with both Lee and Nicky Rossiter
. winning 3-0. Fiaz Amin just lost out 3-1 after twisting his ankle
in the game and Ravdeep Kalsi was unlucky to come up against such
a strong no. 4 losing 3-1 as well
In
the u16 Lee won his second match of the day 3-0 whilst Aiden Kearns
& Greg Walsh both had to fight hard to win 3-1 Dan Hooker found
the going tough at no.4 & lost 0-3 ,but the Team came out comfortable
winners 3-1 securing the top position by a huge 26 points
FM
Under 11's WIN South East England Regional Junior Squash Championships!!
Karin
had waited 27 years for the Middx to lift a junior trophy at the
SE England regionals and last year the wait was over. This year
2006 the U11's team decided not to make her wait again.
The
team of Andrew Taylor (F.Manor), James Illidge (Southgate), Nick
Rossiter (F.Manor), Krishan Gulabivala (F.Manor & Oakleigh Pk),
Toby Halifax (F.Manor) and Niamh Green (Southgate) successfully
defended the SE Regional U11 championships beating teams from Suurey,
Sussex and Kent.
The
team started Saturday off with a fantastic win with Nicky beating
the Kent No 3 , in the closest match of the weekend 10 - 8 in the
5th game. However the team got a slight setback when Toby at 5 and
Niamh at 6 both lost. Andrew was next on and showed no mercy with
his powerful driving and volleys as he tore into the supposed No
1 seed. This left it down to Krishan (4) and James (2) to secure
the match and despite each one dropping a game both came out comfortable
winners.
In
the second round of the day Surrey seemed to be looking good, but
once again Nicky got the team off to a flying start with an easy
3-0 win, however Toby and Niamh both still found it difficult and
although improving from their last performances still lost out 0-3
and 1-3 respectively. However Andrew now brimming with confidence
quickly went 2-0 up only for Surrey No 1 to come back taking an
8-1 lead in the third but not to be denied another 3-0 victory he
fought back bravely to win 10-8 in the third. It was now down to
James and Krishan again to secure victory for the team. Krishan
got there first with a nail biting 10-9, 10-9 in the 3rd and 4th
games and with James still battling away in the 5th managed to break
down the Surrey No 2 with a series of long hard driving rallies
backed up by some accurate drops to win 3-2 and set up another 4-1
victory to Middx.
The
team assembled on the Sunday knowing all they had to do was beat
Sussex and the trophy was theirs Unfotunately the manager had been
out with Kevin Greene (U15 Manager) the night before & was still
recovering. The pre-match talk was "losing was not an option"
with that in mind Nick who now seemed to be on a mission got the
team off to a great start as he powered his opponent off court winning
3-0, whilst Niamh put up her best performance of the weekend but
just lost out 2-3. Toby was very unlucky to come up against such
a strong No 5 nearly getting games in the first & third but
lost out 3-0. By now Andrew was out to show he was the best U11
there and clinically beat his opponent racking up another 3-0 victory.
James was on next to try and secure the match and although his opponent
fought hard in the third it was all one way traffic, James winning
3-0. With the cup now in safely in Middx hands and the manager now
relaxed and drinking champagne Krishan decides to show us it was
never in doubt with a superb display only dropping a handful of
points in his 3-0 win.

The following report has been written by our Junior under 11 team
number 1 - Andrew Taylor:
Andrew's
Report:
"Before
the tournament I was very nervous for I knew that being the no.1
was a big responsibility .I was also nervous because all the other
counties stood as greater chance as our county did. The no.1 player
was going to be the best so I would need to play my very best on
that weekend. The first part of the competition went quite well
so did the 2nd and 3rd round. After the 3rd round we were confident
enough that we had it under control. We watched the 3 other counties
battle it out for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in the competition. I liked
the venue a lot and I thought that glass doors were a good idea.
It seamed a long way to travel but it was worth it, there was a
good team atmosphere as all the different age groups in Middlesex
had not played together before."

Boys:
The last two matches on Thursday (first day) featured 2 tense 5-game
quarter final thrillers with John Lowry (Southgate) about to topple
the no. 3/4th seed. Unfortunately for John, his more experienced
opponent came back from 2-0 down to win the 5th and deciding game.
The other match featured Arjun Shah which went one game each until
the decider, which unfortunately went to his opponent - the no.2
seed. Friday featured Anthony Rogal (Cumberland) in the Mixed U11
Plate final the first game was played well with a tight 11-10
to his opponent, unfortunately Anthonys opponent went on to win
the match. But it will all be remembered as valuable experience.
Congratulations to all the boys who entered, especially to:
